Quanzhou,a well-known historic and cultural city,is a beautiful port city on china's south-eastern coast,Rolling hills and rippling green waters make it a pastoral place with very solid cultural basis.
Quanzhou City came into being in Tang Dynasty,china,beause it produced many eminent monks during each historical periods,the city was famed "Buddha Town in South China".An inscription by Zhuxi in the temple,a famous pedagogue in Ming Dynasty goes like this "In Quanzhou,a Buddha town in China,walking on the town streets are all sages". It just tells the true story of Quanzhou in history.
Dakaiyuan Temple locates on the West Street,Quanzhou,it has a history over 1300 years.The temple site used to be a mulberry garden of Huang Shougong,a landlord in Tang Dynasty.Some day in 686 AD,Landlord Huang dreamed of a monk begging for the garden to build temple,in spite of his unwillingness hung promised that he would say yes if the mulberry trees in the garden blossom lotus flowers.
Three days later,however.Landlord Huang was surprised to find that in his garden the lotus flowers were blossoming in tree like snow flakes in the sky.Then Landlord Huang was moved,he decided to donate his garden to build the temple,which was presided by Monk Kuanghu afterwards,a Buddhist Master who named temple "lotus".
Through its long history of ups and downs,Da Kaiyuan Temple,a Buddhism temple built in Tang Dynasty,is now stepping into the new century with its magnificent outside and profound inside.
